The PECOS faculty and senior researchers are an interdisciplinary group of specialists in modeling, simulation and key core disciplines, including faculty and research scientists from eight academic departments and four schools and colleges. These include aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering mechanics, mathematics, computer sciences, geological sciences, nuclear engineering, computational science, and the Texas Advanced Computing Center. Also included are collaborators from the NASA Johnson Space Flight Center and NASA Ames Research Center.
This diverse group came together to form the PECOS Center within ICES, an institute created to foster interdisciplinary research in computational engineering and sciences. The core team directs the research of numerous students, postdoctoral scholars, and research scientists, and are supported by a small administrative staff.
The PECOS faculty and senior researchers have over 300 man-years of collective experience in modeling, simulation, and V&V and UQ. They include experts in all the domain sciences and enabling technology focus areas relevant to this PSAAP center. The team members are leading figures in their research areas; in particular, they include four members of the National Academy of Engineering, a Gordon Bell Prize winner, three who are listed as among the most highly cited computational mechanics researchers in the world, holders of 13 honorary doctorates, two Associate Vice Presidents for Research, the Senior Scientist at ICES, and six Chaired Professors at UT Austin.
